`Bullied' Scutt spur for apology demand

THE State Opposition has demanded an apology be given to former antidiscrimination commissioner Jocelynne Scutt for the bullying she received over the past five years. Opposition justice spokesman Michael Hodgman said he was shocked and saddened by Dr Scutt's detailed account of bullying and intimidation at the hands of the Government. The state's former chief magistrate Di Fingleton is doing charity work in a halfway house as she serves a six-month jail sentence for threatening a witness. Fingleton tried to demote magistrate Basil Gribbin after he supported a judicial appeal by magistrate Anne Thacker against Fingleton's decision to transfer her. Public opinion regards the jailing of Hanson and Ettridge as manifestly unfair, though many lawyers arguethat the punishment fits the crime. Fingleton has won widespread sympathy for her predicament.
